LOL why can't I hold all these Battle Trainees?

So, with our recent influx of new members there comes a huge demand for Battle Training. Considering the fact that it is easily the most individualistic thing about our boards, it's understandable that new people are going to require some guidance.

However, Drake and I are currently the only ones that seem available to take on Trainees, but I work full-time and don't always have time to dedicate to this and I've got several requests sitting in my inbox.

Most of you should've received an email asking you to come back to RoH for a reward of 30 posts. Unfortunately, this does NOT apply to everyone here. The conditions surrounding this reward is that you cannot be a pre-existing member on RoH VI.

Those that qualify must've been a member of Realms of Hyrule 4 or prior, and are NOT registered here already. Essentially, this can be achieved by returning members who are not signed up here already.

Realms of Hyrule - Updated

Due to the strange occurrences that have been happening, I've been looking into making sure the forum side is completely dusted and clean of any potential faults. The only way to achieve this is by completely re-hauling the site. This site now runs I.P. 3.2.3, whereas the former ran 3.0.5. You needn't worry about the old site however, it can still be found here. Take the opportunity to copy across any posts you have made in the last few days.

The database should be uptodate as of yesterday. Any posts you've made since then (such as those made today) will not appear here. It's the closest I could get without closing down the forums, which I didn't want to do. For this time, and this time only, the double-post rule is on ice. This means that you may copy across your posts. Once its uptodate, the double-post rule will begin anew.

Now, please read the changelog provided here:

1) Tagging.
There is a new feature called tagging. It basically allows people to identify what posts are what. This should be useful when deciding to join a group or solo'er, or attracting potential people to your story. See the topic dedicated to this here.

2) Profile Music.
The old profile music system has gone, and a much nicer one has replaced it. You will find the details in your 'My Settings'.
You will still need to have an url (.mp3) but you can input the song title and artist if you wish. You can also edit your player to whatever colour you decide. (Look up Hex Codes in google to get an idea of colours to use.)

3) Ticket System.
There shouldn't be any more errors when making tickets. That is all up-to-date and swish.

4) Member Edit.
This applies to staff only. You know have the ability to edit posts, rep, custom fields within the forum side, rather than venturing through the ACP. This should save you time and effort.

5) Chat.
We're still using IRC, but it's using a different sort of system. It won't drain our resources, and it's AJAX rather than JAVA so anyone should be able to run it without problems.

6) Pretty much everything else.
I've not fully explored this place yet, there's a lot of new features and things that you can have a play with. I'm still currently installing some features, such as the shop, secondary group icons and so forth. My only regret is that the choose a race on registration doesn't appear to show up. However, scribes can no easily edit this in someone's profile once they've assigned themselves a race when writing up a profile.

FORUMS - ONLINE

After taking a few little measures, the council and I feel we are comfortable enough to reopen the forums for a few days to see how it runs. Two things can come out of this over the next few days...

1) Things run fine. We've stopped the bleeding, as it were, and things have stabilized.
2) Things continue to go crazy, draining resources and pissing off our hosters. This will result in the forum being closed again while we review the necessary precautions to handle it... Probably by moving to a new host.

We're really sorry about the annoyance this brings, but fingers crossed the worst is over.

We'll let you know the outcome soon.

Alright ladies and gentlemen. We have a problem. A good problem, but a problem none the less. We're using up too much bandwidth on the shared server space that we have, and will need to move servers to be able to accommodate our growth. This isn't really a bad thing, but it means that in the short term the RP areas are being shut down in an attempt to stave off the caching issues and ensure that we don't get shut down long enough for us to back everything up. My apologies in advance, know that the moderation team is doing everything that they can to ensure that this moves quickly and smoothly. We'll be providing updates as we can to ensure that none of you are left in the dark.

Important: Flashchat

Recently, we received an email from out hosts that the site was dragging down server performance due to high volumes of queries. This essentially means we're asking too much of the server and over shooting out allowed quota. We believe that the object causing this is the flashchat, as it's a highly demanding piece of kit. It was either leave the chat up and risk the chance of RoH being kicked off the server, effectively being closed down or to bring down flashchat.

Obviously, given the amount of effort put into this place, the chat was not worth the risk, so as of today flashchat is no longer accessible. You may think, where can we chat now? Well, there is still the ircChat, which does not use our database and therefore should not be a drag on resources. The link can be found in the above menus (CHAT IRC) or via this link.

It's not as pretty as the other chat, and there's no way in telling if people are inside the chat or not. However, its currently the only method of direct communication in the meanwhile. In truth, some people preferred IRC over Flashchat, but its a matter of opinion.

We, the staff, understand the importance chat has to a forum, it is the melting pot of the community, allowing for friendships to form, rivalries to ignite and stories to blossom. Therefore we're making it a priority to ensure we find a decent, low-on-resources chat that's effective, aesthetic to use and easy.

Hi there,

At the moment I am looking for a group of people who are very knowledgeable about the Legend of Zelda universe AND the lore regarding these forums. Your job would essentially involve writing up descriptions and other such information about a wide range of things, including:
- Racies; their history and origins, where they fit in the social scheme of things.
- Politics of Hyrule and Termina; who is who and what they do.

There are other such things, and I have examples made up of what I'm looking for. But your work, once reviewed and edited, will be published on our website as a source of information for potential new faces.

We had a thing in the past called "Tingles" which acted as a scribe training camp, whereby they'd help with small staff things in preparation for joining the council. This is a similar thing and you 'may' if you prove to be a valuable, hard working asset, be asked to join the council.

Joining the site team doesn't grant you any privileges within the Forums, so you do not have the powers of a Scribe. But I may make you a little icon to show you are a site team members.
