After countless years within the Kokiri Forest Toruu slowly became bitter towards his brothers and sisters; being the children they are his scars were a daily teasing meant in jest, but this teasing began to tear at him. In response to this "torment" Toruu decided to be as different from the rest as he could: where others were peaceful Toruu looks for fights and can't keep himself out of them to save his life. Often times he would find a simple sparring match with deku sticks turned into a personal vendetta against his kin with him lashing out to actually inflict pain.
Hidden behind the rough surface even Toruu cannot deny the childish nature within him. Often times still being friendly towards those other than Kokiri, the few that have found their way to his home, and finding any chance to play or skimp off any actual work when it was his turn. While generally trustful his time in the forest has taught him that appearances can be decieving even if he is more than willing to give all a fair chance at being a friend. Now set out from the forest in search of something more Toruu finds himself in search of a 'big brother or sister' with whom he can trust and look up to.
In summary - Toruu is a pissed off little kid always looking for the next fight or opportunity to prove himself who is just looking for a person or people who actually make him feel loved and wanted. Good, bad, doesn't matter; not exactly the most moral of people he just wants to feel accepted and have a sense of belonging.
Family:
Toruu considers all of the Kokiri as brothers and sisters, and while he can only remember meeting the Great Deku Tree once he thinks of him as father. Tiri, his fairy, has been there for so long that it's kind of like the nagging aunt that you just can't get rid of. He does hold a particular spot in his heart for Fasol but if and when he'll ever see him again is unknown.
Magical Talents:
From the early days of his creation Toruu found that he could hear the whispers of the ground beneath him. After countless years in the forest he has learned to not only hear but to speak the language of the earth and bend it to his will. While he currently hasn't discovered the language of other elements the thought of finding such knowledge is exceptionally attractive to the Kokiri; after all, if he could learn more his abilities in every conflict he found himself in would prove more than useful.
Weapons and Talents:
While Toruu can rarely be found without his trusty Deku Stick in hand, or on his back, he isn't exactly the most capable in actually using weapons. Even with something as simple as throwing a deku nut, for some reason, is incredibly difficult for the Kokiri. His real talent lies in singing off-beat and terribly off-key songs as loudly as Kokiri possible and his amazing hide and seek abilities, in the forest he was always the last one found.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
Toruu is about as useful in a physical conflict as a butterfly; however, with his instinct to jump into any fray within his field of view he often finds himself getting into rather difficult situations. His saving grace is his sheer will to manipulate the earth - if not for that he would have more than just scars on his body if he was even still around.
History: The day he left the forest...
"Toruu, Toruu, beaten battered Toruu. Climbs up trees just to fall, Toruu's got no arm for him to throw..." On and on it went. If not one thing it was always another. For some reason he just wasn't as able as his brothers and sisters. He had always had difficulty at just about all the games and even most of the work. The only thing he was the best at was hiding when the Kokiri played hide and seek, and sometimes even that felt like they just didn't want to find him.
Waking with the early sun Toruu looked down at his old dusty boots wondering if it was even worth the effort to put them on and face another day in the forest. All the while Tiri, his fairy, was making a ruckus about how much time he'd already wasted. A while back he had dyed his tunic, trousers, and cap a reddish color simply because it would make it easier for others to either leave him be or point him out; these of course came on next. Looking out from his window at some of the particularly early risers already starting their day Toruu took a deep breath, might as well get another day started. It's not as though a Kokiri could just walk out of the forest without the blessing of the Great Deku Tree: a father he couldn't remember ever meeting...
After climbing down from his own quarters Toruu was met by Fasol, one of the few Kokiri that he actually cared for and who hadn't picked on him in all these years of ageless childhood. "Today we're on duty to go out and forage," without a word the pair crossed the other structures to head into the forest itself. While foraging wasn't exactly his favorite thing in the world to do at least it got Toruu away from the others and they knew Fasol would keep him from getting into too much trouble. "You know that those colors only point you out even more from the others," Fasol said. Nodding in agreement, "I know, but it at least gives some of them reason to avoid me. If our father didn't like it he would have already bid me leave our home..."
It was the same discussion that the two had nigh on every day. Fasol trying his best to be a good friend, and Toruu being resentful that for some reason he was flawed when the Great Deku Tree brought him into being. "Who knows Fasol," taking a break from the tedious task to sip from his canteen, "maybe someday old loudmouth will get tired of my antics and actually allow me to see him. Either things will get better or he'll give me his blessing to be rid of this place..." In the background Tiri, of course, was going on and on about how he shouldn't say such things. Unknown to Toruu back in town such action was already being contemplated.
Somewhere around mid-day Toruu and Fasol had filled both satchels with berries, nuts, and other foods to bring back to the community. "Still don't understand why we have to share everything..." Fasol trying not to shake his head, "Yes, yes, I know. If we have a shop in town what sense does it make to give away what we forage. I've heard it all before, but don't you like other things than just what the two of us gather?" Even as the Kokiri talked Tiri kept trying to get Toruu's attention to no avail. By the time he responded it was too late and Toruu found himself walking headfirst into a basket of fish.
Pulling still wet fish from his tunic Toruu rose outraged, "You did that on purpose!" Just as quick as his tongue a deku stick seemed to come out of nowhere. "If that's how you want it then lets go!" Recognizing it as Toruu the other Kokiri pulled their own deku stick in a similar fashion. Within minutes both were bruised up and laying on the ground panting trying to catch their breath. This, of course, was when Mido decided to show up. He had long ago proclaimed himself leader of the Kokiri, though honestly he was just the biggest bully.
Seemingly ages past the confrontation Toruu found himself, for the first time he could remember, standing in front of the Great Deku Tree. After discussing his story Toruu found that the Great Deku Tree truly did know of all things that went on in his forest. From what he was told he was in fact there to be sent out: "It is because you would stand out from your brothers and sisters that you were placed here, for even I know not what goes on beyond the trees." For all the talk he had made the thought of leaving home did truly terrify him; however, the Great Deku Tree's word was considered law to the Kokiri. If he was meant to leave and discover the outside world then that is what he would have to do.
After packing a satchel of the goods provided by the community, now he was actually thankful for the thought, Toruu turned to look back at the place that had always been his home. He knew nothing of life outside the forest but here he was about to leave it all behind. Surprisingly a few of the Kokiri actually appeared to be sad: while it confused Toruu he attributed the looks to them not having anyone to pick on anymore. With each step forward though the thought ate away at him as he began to wonder if he would ever find a place, or a people, that he truly belonged to...
Even lost in thought he absently swatted at Tiri, always such a pest...
