Stone Tower Temple Theme

The tower cast the entire canyon of Ikana in its foreboding shadow. It loomed over the landscape, an ever present reminder of the war that had taken place centuries ago. It stood as a monument to the Garo kingdom; which could not be toppled, but neither could conquer Ikana. It is said that one of the Giants has made his home here, having taken his one-hundred steps east and settled there. The Temple has remained untouched and is well known as being the tallest hand-made structure in all of Termina. Being the resting place of one of the ancient four, nobody; not even the old Igos du Ikana has dared to enter this place in a thousand years. The signs of the ancient dead can be seen everywhere. Though nothing has stirred in this place since that last attack on the tower during the war; when King Igos sent one-hundred of his greatest warriors to climb the tower and destroy it. Since that failure, the Tower has rested peacefully.

Such a strange place, Kvothe thought to himself. Why had he listened to that Sheikah? What was the point of coming to this place? To remove the curse over Ikana? The Stalfos steadied himself; perhaps that would be worth it. To restore life to the wasteland of his new found kingdom. Though he would not survive to see its return to its former glory, he would remain immortal in the hearts of legend as the man that returned life to Ikana and finally toppled the great Stone Tower.

The failure of his ancestors stood over him nearly as tall as the Tower itself; a reminder of what could not be done. This place was worse than the canyon. Kvothe growled and steeled himself; if only he could contact the Giant sleeping inside this tower. Perhaps it could lift the curse and save the land; giving way to new generations. Rather than continue to allow the wasteland to be a sad haunted place that was shut off to the rest of the world. The Stalfos tapped his fingers against the sword at his side to remind him it was there as he walked through the entrance of the tower. Blinking as he entered the courtyard, he pulled his the hood of his cloak over his fleshless head and took in what he saw with a bit of shock.

The center of the courtyard was a massive stone statue that was attached to the side of the tower itself. It was painted in a variety of colors that differed from the colors of the Ikana Kingdom; reds and golds in intricate designs that covered what looked like a face with a gasping mouth. Its mouth appeared to be an entrance, but was sealed shut. Standing around were spires in the same design and colors as the face of the tower. There were several switches on the ground near by that were covered in dust. Walking up to it, he stepped on it to see if it would take his weight. The switch gave, which surprised Kvothe, and a rushing sound could be heard echoing off the walls, but nothing changed.

Kvothe took his foot off the switch and glanced around, there were four switches in total. Perhaps there was a secret to opening them. Kvothe growled to himself in frustration. Four people were probably required to open the entrance. The Stalfos stood and looked up at the Tower; for the first time he admitted to himself that he could not do this alone. What a waste of time.

The Stalfos let loose a bestial roar, that echoed off the Tower walls. The inhuman roar carried over the tower and shook the dust from the spires that had been resting there in peace. The King of Ikana was bested again by the Tower. How utterly frustrating.
