Perks and Flaws Poor(+3), Stealth(-3), Gift of the Goddesses (-6)

Physical Description:
Height: 5’ 7”
Eyes: Karis has bright blue eyes.
Hair: Karis has golden blond hair. Her hair is cut very short and tends to be rather messy. Despite how it hardly ever seems to see a brush, her hair is still usually soft and clean.
Build: Karis is a thin girl. However, she is not unhealthily so. Rather, she has some muscle in her arms and legs.
Clothing: Karis generally wears a faded blue shirt, a brown bodice, and dark blue shorts that go to her knees. At times, she will wear a white shirt, dark vest, and long brown pants instead, and in this outfit, she is easily mistaken for a boy.

Personality: Karis is adventurous, and sometimes a bit impulsive. Often times she will act on impulse, and only luck kept her from getting caught or in trouble. She is a decent enough girl. She won’t go around killing people, but at the same time she doesn’t really care when others are killed. She is nice enough to people who act nice towards her, but while she will smile easily, she rarely trusts people.

Family: Karis has no family. Her earliest memories were of her working for a gang leader in the worst parts of the city, and she knows that she wasn’t related to him.

Magical Talents: Karis could have potential to use magic, but as she has never been taught magic, she has never bothered to learn. However, she can sense the presence of magic. She isn’t sure how to describe it, but she will kind of feel and taste it in the air when magic is being used.

Weapons and Talents: Like most smart folk of the criminal variety, Karis always carries a few plain knives with her. She is also rather fast, and can scurry away into a crowd or over a wall faster than most folk can move.

Strengths and Weaknesses: Karis doesn’t really care about other people. If they aren’t strong enough to survive on their own, then they probably deserved what came to them. Whether this is a strength or weakness depends on the mind of whoever witnesses it. She can also be brash and impulsive, and has in the past had a history of angering the wrong people. She won’t respect anyone unless they give her reason to. She also has limited weapons training. While she is just as good as any other criminal with a knife and with brawling, she has never learned how to hold a sword or draw a bow. She also has never ridden a horse before, or even left the city.

However, she is very knowledgeable about Hyrule Castle City. She also has, due to a love of reading stolen books, a decent amount of book smarts to go with her street smarts.

History:

Karis was born in the poorest parts of Hyrule Castle City. Who her parents were never became known to her, and quite simply never mattered. By the age of three she was orphaned, and was found wandering the streets by Roach, a leader of one of the more vicious gangs in the city at the time. Nobody was sure why Roach would want to waste his time caring for a half starved street orphan. Whatever his reason, he raised her, named her “Mouse”, and taught her to steal. By the age of six she was picking pockets better than most of the gang. By the age of nine, she was doing roof work, sneaking into homes and stealing away with people’s possessions.

When Karis was ten years old, Roach was captured by the guard for one final time. None of the gang saw him after that. Karis took her leave of them then, using the leaderless chaos of the group as an excuse to break away from the gang. She renamed herself, taking on the name of Karis, though many of the folk from her past still thought of her as Mouse. Despite no longer being part of the gang, Karis still stayed a criminal. She continued to pick pockets to survive, and as her confidence grew, she began to pick richer and richer houses to break into. She rarely took anything valuable, instead taking the little items that she could sell easily and that would not be missed for a long while.

As she began breaking into noble homes, Karis soon found herself a goal of sorts. To her it was almost fun to break into the highly secure noble homes, and so she made it her goal to break into every important building in the city at least once before she died.

She also developed something of a love for reading. Roach was smart enough to know that being able to read could give a person an advantage over others. He made Karis learn her letters, and made her practice reading at least once or so a week. For Karis, it was a bothersome task until the day she first broke into a home. The home belonged to the leader of a rival gang, and Karis was to steal his rupees and a rather flashy dagger he was always waving around. While in the small house, though, she saw a book with a rather fascinating image carved into the leather front. The image was of a knight holding a sword and looking rather heroic. The book was the standard adventure fare, with brave knights, damsels in distress, ect.

Karis took the book, and soon realized that she was glad of the ability to read. After that, she began to look for more books. Books were difficult things to steal as they took up a lot of room, and the ones the nobles owned were often fancy, personalized, and challenging to sell later. Still, whether she stole a book, or just sat down with one on some rooftop of a home she was in the process of robbing, Karis found time to read, and became rather fascinated with stories.

Now she is seventeen years old. The life of a thief is a risky one, and hardly pays considering the risk. Karis has found herself questioning her life, and often wonders what else she can do. She isn’t ready to rejoin a gang or to take up any other criminal jobs yet though, so she continues to roam the street of Hyrule Castle City, looking out for herself and staying alive.
