Recently, we received an email from out hosts that the site was dragging down server performance due to high volumes of queries. This essentially means we're asking too much of the server and over shooting out allowed quota. We believe that the object causing this is the flashchat, as it's a highly demanding piece of kit. It was either leave the chat up and risk the chance of RoH being kicked off the server, effectively being closed down or to bring down flashchat.
Obviously, given the amount of effort put into this place, the chat was not worth the risk, so as of today flashchat is no longer accessible. You may think, where can we chat now? Well, there is still the ircChat, which does not use our database and therefore should not be a drag on resources. The link can be found in the above menus (CHAT IRC) or via this link.
It's not as pretty as the other chat, and there's no way in telling if people are inside the chat or not. However, its currently the only method of direct communication in the meanwhile. In truth, some people preferred IRC over Flashchat, but its a matter of opinion.
We, the staff, understand the importance chat has to a forum, it is the melting pot of the community, allowing for friendships to form, rivalries to ignite and stories to blossom. Therefore we're making it a priority to ensure we find a decent, low-on-resources chat that's effective, aesthetic to use and easy.

What about Chatango? It's a little chat that can actually be put onto a website. 'Tis a suggestion, hope its worth something! :D

I have seen a few little scripted chats, but it isn't something that has interested me before. I don't like the idea of chatting on the main page (regardless of the benefits). I'd much prefer a separate place, where people can relax and not have to worry about the rules of the forum.
