Name: Alaric Von Voltaire
Other Aliases: Prince of Shadows, Lord Voltaire, Mayor, The Archon.
Gender: Male
Race: Sheikah
Age: 29
Guild: The Order of Masks (Guild Master)
Archetype: Cabalist
Nationality: Terminian
Physical Description:
Eyes: His eyes are typical of any Sheikah, a crimson red.
Hair: Long, black hair that touches the top of his back. It's fine and easily moved by the slightest of breezes. Sometimes it's kept in a silver hair clip at the back, funnelling the hair into a ponytail.
Height: Roughly 6 foot tall.
Physique: Slim, slender and atheletic. He has strong definitions across his body, that he always likes to put on show.
Clothing: Alaric likes to wear cotton trousers, usually dark tones, with a blouse and a lace neck ruffle. On most occasions a waistcoat is worn with his grandfather’s fob watch kept in the pocket with the chain fastened in one of the button holes. Over this a long coat is work, tight to his frame but light and airy for easy maneuverability. Often he doesn't wear a coat unless its cold, usually a cape fastened to his shoulder with silver brooches suffices.
Personality: Charming, aristocratic almost, seemingly always willing to lay down his cloak for a beautiful lady (or dashing gentleman) when the time calls for it. Some might say this was a simple trait of his character, others prefer to see it as a guise, a means to an end. Whether gallant or devious, Alaric has been known for other particular trends within his personality. He enjoys the thrill of taking a risk, either putting himself in danger through injury or the law.
Despite showing sexual deviance and apparently lack of moral concerns for either himself or for those he involves himself with, Alaric is actually a highly complicated individual in which the reasons for him being the way he is relates back to his past. (See History). Being emotionally closed off has helped him through many a tough time though leaves him vulnerable on those cold, lonely nights (though it’s a rarity). His reclusive nature stems from his lack of trust in anyone, and his inability to love arrives from a former fling that he lost due to his blindness to look for the truth.
Some could argue Alaric suffers from mild psychosis, though he would simply laugh if accused and respond in a witty manner. In truth, Alaric has a complete disregard for life and people. He values himself and only himself, followed by nice things, sex and alcohol.
Family: Originally named the Volta, an ancient family of Sheikah in servitude to the Royal Family. They escaped during the great war to Termina. Jareth Von Voltaire, son of Gideon and Iris Volta, and brother of Urza Volta, become the owner of a powerful business, taking Jessie, a politicians's daughter as his wife. Alaric was born to these two and is an only child.
Magical Talents: He is a proficient mage, being able to conjure shadow and fire energy. They may vary to orbs/balls to 'winds' or waves of these energys.
Weapons and Talents: Sometimes he has a rapier, though usually he has a staff-lance capable of both melee and magical ranged attack. He can summon or banish the weapon at will.
Strengths and Weaknesses: He is uncaring, immoral and without guilt. Though not evil, he will assist anyone for the right price, or if it is within his best interests (such as stopping the end of the world). Because of this, it makes his company incredibly versatile.
Ironically, though his apparent personality is uncaring, his is polite and formal, always willing to hold a conversation with the right person. Perhaps this is the hunger for knowledge and information coming through rather than a genuine concern for the person he is talking to.
Alaric is cocky, arrogant and insensitive, making him difficult to get along with. Though he may always up for showing off, he is no fool.
History: Many, many years ago, during the great war where many Sheikah lost their lives, there was a family who disobeyed their duties to their King. The Volta family, consisting of a Sheikah man named Gideon and his wife Iris and their two sons, Jareth and Urza, fled from Hyrule, southwards through the Snowhead Mountains until they reached the Mountain Village. Termina was in a state of peace compared to its northern neighbour, being independant of religion and politics. Few Hyruleans found their way to this land due to the natural boundaries that contained Hyrule. Being a resilient family, the Volta made it.
From within the Mountain Village, the family made their home, helping the small settlement with the busting weapon smithing trade, mining for ores and precious minerals. Jareth, tired of such life, decided to take his own future into his own hands. He left the Volta and headed towards Clock Town, aiming to start a business where his Sheikahn skills would be most appreciated. Jareth was only a young man at this point, but he made a name for himself within the town, founding a business dealing with protective services, helping diplomats to and from the different areas of Termina. Money began to pile up from savings which Jareth used to put down a deposit on a large estate within the town.
Jareth was old when he married and sired his first and only son, Alaric. He had also changed his old family name, Volta to Von Voltaire, a more upstanding and fearing name. He realised that it would be the name that would scare away anyone who would dare attack personel under his protection. Jareth died when Alaric reached his tenth year. Inheriting the business, wealth and estates that his father had worked hard to create, Alaric was guided by his mother, daughter of a retired politician within Clock Town. Some say the marriage was a marriage of convenience: brain and brawn from Jessie (Alaric's Mother) and Jareth respectively. Alaric inherited both of these traits in full force, also becoming greatly proficient in magic, which he would use to full advantage in later life.
Alaric was tutored under his mother's guise, learning the best of political tact and business guile. He had a scholar imported from Hyrule when the borders were fully opened to help train him in magic. Magic, within Termina, was a strange concept. The Terminians tended to rely on science and technology rather than the fickleness of magic. It was because of that the people become to fear Alaric. At the age of fifteen, the teenage Sheikah was becoming proficient in generating simple magical spells, such as orbs of shadow energy or fire. Over the years, this magic would slowly increase in proficiency in power.
At sixteen, Alaric found himself fallen in love with maid named Becca who tended to his estate. They had a secret love affair for a few years, until Alaric hit twenty when he found Becca missing from her duties and the town. Being a business operating on security, it also had eyes and ears in a number of places, be it legal or not. News slowly tricked back to Alaric after a year of Becca's dissappearance. Rumour was the young maid had discovered a fortune from some place and used to it buy a small farm with a local man to the north of Clock Town. Enraged, Alaric questioned his Mother, who remained blissfully unaware of the event. Financial records saw a substancial quantity of rupees was withdrawn from the bank though no mention to where it went. This led Alaric to believe Becca was bought off, for Jessie Von Voltaire would not have her son marry a simple main.
The personality of the young man changed from that day. Betrayed by both her mother and love of his life, and the corruption of power and the weight that his name gave him, Alaric decided to take action on his impulses. At the age of twenty three, the Sheikah made a lone visit to the north. No-one new of the young Lord's disappearance that night, or even witnessed his return. Alarming news echoed through the region of a farmstead being burnt to the ground and the bodies of a woman and man hanging from a tree that grew by the side of the road. From that day his Mother refused to be part of her son's life, whether out of fear of his wrath or because she no longer recognised him, no-one would know. She died only a year or so later - of perfectly natural causes, of course.
Showing little concern for his father's business, he sold it to those who were interested in that area. Instead, he turned his attention more darker elements of social and economic life, 'highwaymanism' and developing a relationship with the Gerudo Pirates. Though the Von Voltaire security business was no more, the name only grew in strength and dominance.
