Group Into the forests

Discussion in 'West Hyrule Field' started by Varus, Nov 18, 2016.

  1. Varus refused Jace's offer for help, mainly because he was done, and melody was back with the plates. He cut the meat up and put some on everyone's plate. There really wasn't a full table at which to eat so Varus moved off to a corner and ate his meal standing up. He was just about to begin eating when Jace insisted that they pray before dinner. He freaked out for a moment Did I do something wrong?

Jace gave thanks to Farore, and Varus just kind went along with it. They all ate with relative silence, probably because of how hungry they all were after the excitement of the day. Matilda was much tamer now than she normally was, not arguing or bickering at all with Skyden. When did she get so quiet?

By the time they all finished their meal, all of them were really sleepy. Jace went out for a quick walk before basically walking over to the rug and face-planting into it. He was out before he even hit the rug. Varus and Melody put some blankets over him to keep him warm, then melody rolled out her own sleeping bag and crawled in. Skyden, being a Kokiri, only ended up taking a little more than half the couch. The other half was occupied by Matilda, who had laid herself on her stomach so that her damaged wings would be facing upward and not be damaged further. Vasus blew out the candles that lit the room and left them all to rest.

He himself could not sleep. Instead he went out onto his porch and sat in his master's old rocking chair and stared out at the scenery.
Why am I so weak? Why can't I control myself? What did I deserve to end up like this? He looked out into the forest, knowing that not too far out could be the moon berries that they were looking for, but he could not bring himself to move and find them. "Why am I so weak?"

  2. Melody woke up about two hours after she thought everyone had gone to sleep. She got out of her sleeping bag quietly to make sure she didn't wake anyone up. She was going to go collect the moon berries herself seeing as nighttime was the best time to hunt for them and she was the only one who had the energy and strength to look for them right now. She blamed herself for everything that had happened ever since she met Skyden. Matilda never would've gotten her wing injured if she hadn't dragged Skyden into her own mess and then there was the whole debacle with the Poe at her parent's old house Jace had to come and save them because she was too weak to do anything and Varus never would've had to fight the big wolfos if the whole mess with that man which injured Matilda's wings. She grabbed her spell book out of her bag as well as a knife from Varus' house to cut the berries with and to give herself a way to fight if she got caught by some wolfos then again the wolfos at night can't stand the light, but she wanted to do this without causing anyone to wake up, so a big flash of light might not be the best choice of fighting. She looked out one of the windows of Varus' house and saw a faint blue glow which she remembered reading about from Ms.Tweed's book. She climbed out the window to the west of Varus' ground floor to go and collect the berries for Matilda.

Skyden bowed his head respectfully for the praying at dinner, though he did find it a bit awkward. Honestly, he had never done this before! Thanking Farore for this meal seemed pretty counter-intuitive too. I mean, obviously Varus should be thanked, right? But he didn't want to bring up anything. As for Matilda, he could almost palpably feel the tiny eyes in her head rolling like spinning tops.

Overall, the meal was pretty basic and missing a few things for better balance, and the venison would have probably been so much better with tasty savory sauce... oh, there Skyden was getting all greedy and unthankful again. Well a meal was a meal. The four talked infrequently about some inconsequential things with long periods of silence.

And then as the blood rushed from their heads to their stomachs after a meal, everyone felt like passing out. The couch was quite soft and spacious for Skyden's smaller body, and as he put his mind to it, he fell asleep very quickly. The others followed suit, presumably. But apparently, Melody was up to something. Matilda stirred restlessly.

  4. Everything Varus made looked so delicious. However, before they started to dig in, Jace requested that the group say grace. He called Varus to the table, and they all joined hands around the table. "Golden Goddesses, thank you for this meal. Thank you Din, for creating the earth that we and these creatures we feast upon share. Thank you Farore, for creating the beasts of the Earth and the plants on the ground that we all depend upon for sustenance. Thank you to Nayru, for giving the people who walk the earth the tools and knowledge to hunt and provide for ourselves and our family. Thank you to Hylia, for creating us Hylians." Jace glanced at Skyden and prayed "And thank you to Farore again, for helping to create the Kokiri, who joins us today at our table." Jace brought his hands together in the same Triforce configuration he made when he cast the powerful spell earlier. "Praise be unto the Golden Goddesses, who reside in the Sacred Realm, from where they guide us and protect us." Jace looked around the table, half expecting, half hoping at least somebody would give the traditional response, "Praise be unto Them." Oh well. Guess these aren't the church-going types. "Well? Let's dig in!"

After dinner, Jace helped clean up, then a quick walk around the house, partly to help clear his mind after today's events, and partly do one last patrol for any monsters that might be around. He trusted Varus when he said monsters never showed up around the house, but it never hurt to be too careful. Inside, Jace prayed once more over the amulet of Farore's emblem that his mother gave him, and prayed for the safety of his new friends, and for his family back home, then went to sleep on the surprisingly comfortable rug.

  5. Varus' moping stopped. He was certain there was moment inside the house. He reached his senses in, and heard one of hi knives com off the rack. Who was this? The rest of the group was asleep. He heard a window open and whoever it was hop out. Who was this? He moved around to the side to investigate, to find melody hurrying off into the woods. She moved towards a blue glow in the distance. She was going out to get the moon berries! Varus felt himself tense up. He was weak. this 12 year old girl was braver than he, going out into unfamiliar territory to find something that she probably had never seen before, other than in books. meanwhile. Varus had collected the berries before, knew the forest like the back of his hand, but still could not pull himself together to go out and do what she had the courage to do.

Get a hold of yourself! Stop being weak! He knew he had to redeem himself, but how? He sat there and stared at his crossbow, that he made with his master. What would he have done? That is when he knew, he would follow her, and at least keep her safe. He would stay hidden however, as this was to be her victory, not Varus'. He was just riding on her courage, she was the hero here.

He pulled his cloak over his head, picked up his crossbow and followed. He stayed well behind Melody as to not not draw suspicion that he was following her to make sure she stayed safe. If all went well she would never know that he had followed her and she would be the one who accomplished this task on her own. This was her moment. She drew near the blue light that she was obviously heading for. Varus a safe distance behind her. He moved to get a better view of where the berries were. However, to his surprise there were no berries there.
    What is that?

  6. Melody was heading over to where she saw the blue glow when suddenly it disappeared. Melody bit her lip she knew that couldn't be good, but she couldn't exactly head back to the cabin now she'd wake everyone up. She sighed and created a small light in the hand she held her spellbook. It was bright enough for her to see, but not too bright to drown out the moon-berrie's glow. She continued forward when she caught sight of the blue light once again but this time it was much bigger. She couldn't believe it had she gotten lucky enough to find a bush full of the berries? She ran forward not paying attention to her surroundings towards the blue glow. When she made it there she was shocked she had actually found a bush full of the berries. She went to go cut them, but suddenly multiple yellow eyes surrounding the bush and heard growls.
She bit her lip, "Th...this is so not good. I found the berries, but just my luck its surrounded by monsters." She was about to pull the knife out to fight, but a large wolfos twice the size of Melody tried to pounce on her, but she managed to roll out of the way getting dirt all over her clothes not like that mattered right now. What mattered was that she needed to survive and the only way to do that was to fight back. She pulled out the knife, but as soon as it was in her hand a smaller wolfos pounced on her causing the knife to slide out of Melody's hand. She froze in fear she fell like this was the end for her. She was going to die here. She mentally prayed to the goddesses that someone could come save her.

"Skyden, wake up!" Matilda furtively whispered, having climbed near the boy's face. Though she was trying to be discreet, her rasping voice was not as quiet as it should have been.

"Mmmghmm..." Skyden barely muttered as he turned the other way on the couch. Damn this thing was comfortable, and he was already in a deep sleep.

"Skyden!" the fairy now all but shouted, hardly maintaining the guise of a whisper at all. She kicked his nose with an indescribably small foot.

    " *snort* W-wha...?"

"Varus just snuck out. And Melody isn't anywhere around here either!"

Skyden looked bleary-eyed and saw Jace on the bear skin rug. "Ungh, what are you talking about, he's right there..." He began to turn the other way again, readjusting the blanket over his body.

"That's Jace! Hey! Listen! Hunter guy went into forest! Little girl isn't here!"
Matilda really was annoyed now. Would these small words get through?

Skyden was starting to get pretty annoyed himself, until the message finally sunk in. His eyes snapped open, and he sat up. "Wait. Melody and Varus aren't here?"

    "That's what I've been saying!"

  8. Jace woke up to find a small light pulsing across the room. "Whaat... What's going on?" Pretty quickly he realized that the pulsing light was in fact Matilda, and there was a vague outline of a small humanoid, probably Skyden. The moon was shining but Jace still couldn't see that much, so Jace lit up his arm like he did when he first met Skyden and Melody. As lightning crackled up and down his arm, he saw that Skyden looked pretty alarmed. Instantly, Jace knew that something was wrong. He managed to glean that apparently Melody and Varus were nowhere to be found. The question is, who left first? Who's going after whom? "Come on Skyden. If they really are missing, then we gotta go!" Mentally, Jace started to do the math in his head. Why would Varus run off? He wouldn't leave on his own. This is his house. However, Melody probably would. She probably wanted to go out and prove herself one way or another. Jace could emphasize with the kid. He knew what it was like to feel useless. And feeling useless could lead someone to go to great lengths to make yourself feel helpful. But damnit kid, being rash and reckless is my job! He got up and grabbed his mace and shield. There was no time to put on his armor. Jace ran his hand along the head of mace, causing it to light up brilliantly with lightning magic as he extinguished the electricity on his arm. He burst out the door, then shouted for Skyden to hurry up and come along, then ran out into the night, searching for any sign of his friends, using his electrified mace to light the way.

  9. How did he not see the wall of Wolfos in front of him? Not the time for questions, time for actions. But what could he do without reveling that he had been following her the whole time? If he jumped in to save her, he would be stealing her moment of courage that Varus had just hitched a ride on. Not the time for thinking time for acting! he stopped thinking and started doing.

He ran over to a tree, just out of sight and pulled out his bird whistle. He blew on it as loud as he could. To a person, the sound it made was no more that a quiet ring in their ears, but to animals the sound was like if a Goron Bellowed long a hard half an inch away from their ear. This was his territory and once the wolfos knew they would turn tail and run. Well... the smart ones at least, they would know that if Varus was still alive then he had dispatched of the White Wolfos and could easily dispatch of them. The dumb ones would think, owch my ear let me kill that first, not knowing that it is Varus waiting in a tree to riddle them with bolts.

He stretched his senses back to where the Wolfos were attacking Melody. His tactic had worked pretty well, several of the wolfos were stumbling off away from his territory, and three made their way to him. There was only a single Wolfos left who was pawing at his ears and whimpering on the ground. Melody would have to deal with that herself.

He climbed to a forked branch and sat in wait for the three wolfos that were coming after him. He lest the first run past the tree. He placed a bolt into the second's shoulders. The third stopped and looked to see where the bolt came from. By the time he found Varus a bolt was growing out of his eye. The first came back to see his two companions dead on the ground. He wised up real quick and ran away. Varus let him go so the wolfos would tell all the others of how dangerous Varus was and that they should never again cross into his territory.

In the distance he heard the others stirring. he ran out of the forest to direct them to Melody,
"Quickly this way!" He now could only hope Melody managed to finish that last Wolfo off herself.

  10. Melody sighed with some relif someine had managed to get most of the wolfos away from her which only left one to deal with. She was sure she could handle one of them or at least she thought she could until she saw which one was left much to her displeasure it was the one who that was twice her size. She had to find a way to take care of it. She could see the knife glimmering in a bush to the right of the big wolfos, so she had to sneak by it to get the kindle if she wanted to prevent waking the others. She slowly began to crawl towards the knife hoping not to alert the wolfos. Though as soon as she started to crawl thanks to her bad luck she ended up snapping a flimsy twig that was on the ground alerting the wolfos to her movement. The monster growled at her and tried to pounce onto her smaller frame. Luckily thanks to her size she managed to roll out of the way, but the wolf kept up its assault and managed to land a nasty cut on her left arm causing Melody to cry out in pain. "Ahhhhh!" Thanks to the adrenaline from the 'fight' she managed to land a strong kick on the wolf's stomach which managed to kick it into a tree nearby which from the impact caused the wolfos to end up unconscious. She quickly grabbed the knife and barely managed to get close to the moonberry bush and cut off some berries to put in the jar she brought with her before the pain from the cut and blood caused her vision to go black before faintly hearing someone's voice.

Skyden, still in a stupor from waking up, ran to keep up with Jace. Not only did he have no time to don any armor as well, but he completely forgot his sword too. And Matilda. The fairy didn't bother to say as much.. or maybe she did say something but not fast enough or loud enough to hear, as the boy had already quickly made it past the treeline, just behind Jace, who was guiding with his light spell.

Among the list of other things Skyden forgot to bring with him were his shoes, which a branch painfully reminded with discomfort as he stepped on it. And as he reeled from that, hopping on his other foot while still trying to keep up with Jace and checking if he got a nasty cut, he all but careened into a small, low-hanging branch. The twigs and the leaves thrashed and raked at the skin of his torso and arms, also indicating he didn't even have a shirt as well.

As this realization set into Skyden's head, which was still trying to wake up - no weapon, no armor, half naked at night in the woods - he seriously considered going back at least for a weapon until he heard the sounds of growling, scuffling, and a young girl crying for help not too far away. No, by time he made the round trip back, it would already be too late! And, well, he'd probably lose the direction and get lost too at this point.

  12. "AAAHHHHH!"

The sharp cry pierced the otherwise silent night and drilled itself into Jace's skull. Suddenly, Jace's already stressed mind was filled with dread for whatever fate had befallen Melody. "MELODY! IS THAT YOU? WE'RE COMING!" Previously, Jace had been actively trying to make sure Skyden could see him and wasn't too far behind. But now that he knew that Melody was actively in danger, that thought was beyond him. All that mattered now was saving Melody. Skyden's a Kokiri, he'll be fine. The woods are his element! He probably is a master tracker. He's lived in the Kokiri forrest all his life, finding his way through this forest should be a walk in the park!

    ........

    Is that racist?

Jace shook is head. Now wasn't the time for that. The shriek had come from the left, so he turned left and kept running, scanning his surroundings for any sign of a little girl. Tree, tree, tree, shrub, tree, rock, tree, bigger rock, tree, tree, shiny thing, tree
Shiny thing? That's not normal for dark woods. Jace took a sharp turn toward where he saw the shiny thing. When he was about twenty feet away he had a better view of the scene. Th first thing he noticed was that the object was in fact the light of the moon glistening off of the knife. The second thing he noticed was Melody, crumpled up on the floor lying in a small pool of blood. The third thing was a relatively large wolfos lying beneath a tree. He didn't have time to wonder why it was there or how it got knocked unconscious. All that mattered was protecting his friend. "MELODYYYYY!!!"
Jace burst through the trees, with his mace in both hands, fully electrified. Still running at full speed, he swung his mace like golf club, striking the beast right in the gut and sending it flying, slightly charred and very injured. He didn't bother to see where the wolfos landed as he instantly got down to where Melody was lying. Jace checked her pulse, thankfully she was still alive and breathing. He turned her over to find where her wound was. Seeing the gash on her harm, he winced, then he rubbed his hands together and breathed into his hands, causing his palms to glow with green light.

  13. Jace ran right past Varus after Molody's scream. In the darkness, he probably didn't even see him. Varus turned to follow, but noticed something was off, Skyden wasn't with him. From what he had picked up about the Kokiri, it would seem very odd for him not to be heading headfirst into the adventure and fighting himself. Yes, there is no way he would have just stayed back at the house, but the question that remained was, where was he?

Moved quickly to find Skyden, they needed to get to Melody fast. He found Skyden very quickly. Wasn't lost out in the woods, but he was in his bed clothes and very clearly wasn't having a good nights rest. He was going the right way, just not as confidently and quickly as Jace. He also didn't have a weapon nor armor, which, given the circumstances, was understandable.

"Skyden, this way," Varus called over to him. He headed in the direction of Melody and Jace, doing his best to be a quick as possible while still leading Skyden there. As they drew closer however, there came a green glow right from where Jace and Melody would be. Instinctively he turned and hid behind a tree, facing the opposite way of the green glow. Of course. Melody is hurt, Jace just got over there and is probably healing her with his ma... He dared not even think that word, for he, and the other knew what would happen if he did. "Skyden, they... they are just over... over there," he said, pointing over his shoulder. "I... I'm sorry... I... I can't go any farther," he buried his face in his hands for a moment. Then looking back up to Skyden, nodding, then going back to holding himself together.

    Why am I so weak!

  14. Melody's eyes began to flutter open. As she looked around her vision was blurry, but everything came into focus slowly and she saw Jace looking over her clearly worried about her. She gulped this wasn't good she wanted to get the berries without anyone having to help her. She frowned she really was useless without anyone to help her. She looked at her arm saw that it had healed no doubt thanks to Jace's magic. She checked to make sure the berries didn't get damaged and thankfully they were fine. The berries in the bottle had rolled under a bush nearby. She went over and grabbed the berries. She awkwardly said, "I...um....got the berries Matilda needed. We can uh head back to town as soon as you guys are ready." She got up and almost fell to the ground, but she managed to steady herself and grabbed the berries, knife, and her tome and headed back to Varus' house without another word.

Skyden met Varus and began to follow him through the woods now too. As he bumbled through the brush, he wondered if he may actually, in fact, be dreaming. Then again, having just thought that thought, it seemed quite unlikely. While his mind could process these facts, somewhat, it still didn't quite explain what that faint green glow was or what Varus was getting all worked up for again. Was it the kryptonite? No, wait, that was from some other dream. Dreams blending with reality...

Not too further off now, Jace was kneeling over the small form of Melody. Well, it seemed there was no danger around... Oh, right. Melody. That was the reason they had been running out of the house. And Varus, too, he supposed.

Skyden approached, now more self-conscious than ever, as Melody got up and picked up something. Berries, she said? Going back to town now? Skyden shook his head. If this wasn't a dream, that meant everyone was out here late at night in the woods doing Three Goddesses know what. "Erm, it's late Melody. We can go back in the morning... wait. The berries. You found moon berries out here??"
