Wondering what Spirit and Forest magic can do and not do.
Hi Gill! Apologies, I forgot to update the magic page when the old Battle System was scrapped. I have updated it now with this:
Spirit - In RP, Spirit includes the manipulation of one’s own soul, the spirits of others, and otherwise ghostly energies. It effectively deals with spiritual and ghostly energy, and its natural opposite is Forest.
Forest - In RP, Forest includes control over various plant-life and flora, sometimes extending to fauna to assist with animal empathy. It effectively deals with nature and “life energy” and its natural opposite is Spirit.
Now for a little more depth than that: Forest can deal with making plants grow, summoning entangling vines or using a thorny whip, etc. It could also assist with a natural affinity towards animals, though actually speaking with one would require a ticket request. More than that, Forest in this setting deals with raw "life" energy, overlapping it with Light (as the more traditional choice for healing) if you so choose. In this setting, Spirit more deals with soul manipulation and such. My witch Rawiya has used it to shoot projectile balls of ectoplasm, and as the source of her arcane vision/senses, for example. It could also be used to explain buffs and debuffs. Being a less 'concrete' element, it also makes a good explanation for illusion spells.
We're fairly broad ranged in what players are allowed to do with magic, and explaining what elements can be used for what themselves, as long as the effect doesn't come across as overpowered. For special requests that seem more powerful or bizarre than usual, members may submit ticket requests, so staff can keep track of the particularly unusual powers we allow characters to have.
I hope you found this helpful! Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.
Thanks a lot, this clarifies everything much more.
