After parting ways – not before Dante explained that he’d like to meet at the library around mid-morning; hoping to give Tane enough time to do some suddenly unplanned shopping- he left the detective to his own devices. It wasn’t as if he had to babysit the Ace, so there was very little concern to let him find where he wanted to lodge for the evening.

Rousing in the morning, a little closer to dawn than her would have preferred – he set to tending to a few things within the old crone’s abode. Having privately noted a few things the night prior when he had returned, Dante took care of what he could. A minor irritation flanked behind his mind’s eye at the few bits of disarray of his grandmother’s home. A single door had bent slightly on its frame – due to a lost pin – he merely took care of some of those pesky minor issues within. The sort that his father would ignore having disliked stepping into the house of course.

It was closer to eight or nine when Zeid had come out from his offered room. Dressed haphazardly and hair wild in all directions; he blearily greeted the sheikah. The elder of them all came shortly after, kempt and ready for the day but making some sort of muttering about how it was too lovely of a day. Overall the general morning was uninteresting and didn’t need as much thought as he gave it. Self-narration dwelled within the confines of his head; only to be disturbed when Zeid sighed heavily.

Hair no longer sticking up in all gravity defying tricks; anticipation was making its home within the younger boys body. Dancing back and forth on his feet, eyes were peering out towards Kasuto. Looking for the detective of course while trying not to look too eager. Although that last bit was failing.

The library doors had unlocked about an hour ago; the receptionist nodded to each of them before she disappeared inside. “What time is it?” Zeid asked offering a side look before turning said irises skywards.

Not too long now;” Dante hooked a thumb through his belt loop, ignoring the question and answering mildly what the boy wanted to here. “Tane was probably taking the time last night to collect his thoughts after the night events. Don’t be too impatient, we aren’t going to suddenly have a break through on the first day Zeid.”

Shoulders slumped inwards, “I know but-” Deciding not to finish but puff out his cheeks in frustration; he internalized it but kept his vision roaming before them.

Tane had gotten up early enough, though he had a few errands to run before meeting up with Dante and Zeid at the library. Firstly, it was off to the shops to get himself some new attire to wear. He wasn't about to walk around in some hand-me-downs that belonged to Mystery Man #1. His style would not allow it. He needed something both comfortable and fit for traveling, but also still held to his standards.

As a second order of business, he considered passing a letter through a courier to to Rachel to explain his absence. However, he had no idea if she had left town yet on her urgent business to Rauru. He wasn't sure he wanted to seek her out and disrupt something so important to her. He had a job to do and so did she. There was hardly a reason for either of them to fall into distractions as much as he wanted her to be aware he hadn't run away. Work just came first.

After he had gotten himself new dress, he made his way to the library. Dressed in his typical red and gold with a long coat sporting a dragon sewn across the shoulders and down one arm, he was looking every bit the flashy, extravagant showman the Ace typically was. He waved an arm and called out as he entered the area of the library. "Dante? Zeid? I'm here."

It looked like they had arrived even before he did and he thought he was early. His shopping hadn't taken nearly as long as he had thought it would. He knew exactly what he wanted and had plenty of rupees with which to purchase them. "I'm sorry I'm late. I had to do some shopping for myself. But all my affairs are in order and I'm ready to begin. As long as you need me-" as long as they were willing to pay and however long this might take "-I am yours."

Swiveling on the ball of his foot to look at the approaching man; he was privately bemused to see the detective dressed to the nines again. While it wasn’t wholly surprising that Tane was a man of rich tastes, perhaps there was a sense somewhere inside of himself that didn’t think he would be either. “No worries, we haven’t been waiting long.

Zeid merely echoed the sentiment but didn’t wait either before turning around suddenly and booking it for the door. Pausing only once to glance back then disappear through the open portal. “He is a wee bit excited, how is the arm this morning?” Dante asks making the motion to walk after the young lad.

While Tane had said ‘as long as they needed him,’ Dante wasn’t a fool enough to believe that the detective would be around without some sense of pay or accomplishment. So, he would have to make sure the man had his rewards sooner than later, just to keep him interested.

The door peeked open revealing an eager Zeid standing there, “Do we need clues? Do I need to tell you anything that could help Mr. Kooper?

And this is calmer than this morning.” Pulling the door wider so Tane could step inside; Zeid barely got out of the way. Almost ready to pounce on the detective with anticipation.

"My arms feel great," Tane announced proudly. The healing had done wonders. The wounds would still need some serious attention for the next few days to make sure infection didn't take hold, but they didn't hurt whatsoever. "I can barely even notice I'd been hurt at all." He was about to make a comment that he should extend thanks to the man's sister, but wondered if it might be misplaced gratitude just by how the two had been shooting daggers at one another the entire time they'd been there last night. Instead, he left the comment hanging where it was and simply added, "It was good care and I'm right as rain and ready to get to work today."

If Tane was anything, he was dedicated and thorough. He was planning on making sure this pair did not regret coming to him. He was sure he was among the best and he was going to prove it. If even he could not find the boy's missing mother, a feat no others had ever been able to accomplish, he was determined to come closer than anyone had before. This was sure to be one of the biggest jobs he'd ever been involved in, and so he was going to find some clues if it brought him to the brink of death.

He followed inside once the boy disappeared through the doors like an excited puppy. He paused in the entryway a moment to drag his eyes across rows and rows of bookshelves. So early, no one else was here and that was just perfect. He liked to have some privacy while he worked. "Clues might help," he nodded and said before he finally settled his gaze on Zeid. "I'm interested in the records. The older parchments that tell of times before this war. I expect they'd be towards the back, likely in their own room where they can be kept a little neater and safer. Stuff like that is highly valuable and precious and needs to be kept intact. Otherwise we'd lose our own history and then whee would we be at? Down in the dark ages and having to start over from the beginning, knowing nothing of past mistakes and accomplishments or innovations."

He started down an aisle, waving an arm, "Walk with me then. Let's go have a look and see."

"Good to hear." Dante nodded pleased to honestly hear that Tane was doing decently well. It could be a farce in a sense just to ignore the linger pain and go on with his day. Either way, Dante wasn't going to push. Especially with the young hylian being as eager as he was.

The library was decently empty. Not the least bit surprising as he doubted most people got up early enough to leisurely make their way through the book stacks at the first open of the door.

"She liked to read history books." Zeid stated with a raised finger, "And I heard that she used to like to leave little notes in books she did read, to remind herself of something if she came back to it. Or for someone else to find." Dante raised a brow at the specific nature of the comment but didn't find it too alarming to raise question.

"Records are history. I would suspect there could possibly be some from before the war that were saved in the downfall of the castle. Probably specific to the sheikahn line but records nonetheless."

"She liked those romance novels too from what I recall Kenneth muttering about. Something about wasting time and reading hogwash drivel." Shoulders lifted in a firm shrug showing he wasn't too sure what the deal was about the romance novels. Even Dante stopped himself from making an overt comment.

Making a motion forward Zeid lined up beside Tane, "Records first, romance novels later." That was a promise he wasn't go live up too by any means.

"Romance novels," Tane remarked as he walked, "I see." Though the comment wasn't exactly directed at anyone in particular nor was it really meant to be expanded upon, he continued with his thinking out loud. "I've read my share of romance stories and I've had a couple flings in the past that might be scandalous to qualify for the silver pages of a book, but I haven't had much time to give any sort of romancing a thought. My work must come first. I can't be selfish and think only about my life when there's so much out there in the world that needs yet to be fixed first. Of course, that doesn't mean I'm not allowed to enjoy myself. Hence. The flings." He had been looking straight ahead as he talked, probably not even realizing he had been talking out loud. If he made any indication that he cared or even noticed if Zeid and Dante had heard him, he did not show it.

Reaching the back of the library, they were presented with a closed door that held a plaque simply reading "Archives". "This must be it," Tane commented, trying the door. At first it did not budge and he worried it was locked and off limits. However, after another fierce tug, the door popped open and he smiled. "Ah. Stuck. People must not come back here all that often." That was made even more obvious by a cobweb that violate the Ace's face as he stepped through the doorway. Dust kicked up and he coughed once as he brushed the debris away from his eyes.

"Now this is far more promising,"
he announced, unable to curb the excitement that was plain in his voice. "If it's truly been so long that others have been here, there's a very good chance we might find some yet undisturbed clues. I guess all that's left now is to look around. I would suggest specifically anything about old histories, ruins, or past cities. The palace and the castle city would be our best bet." That all said, the detective set right to work, disappearing down one aisle, scanning binding after binding on the books he passed by.

Side glancing the detective with his commentary about the romance novels, he had to stop himself from rolling his eyes. Too hard. "It sounds like you ought to have a few books of the romantic sort written after yourself then." Whether Dante was kidding or not was left to question. Zeid on the other hand seemed confused. Turning his head between the pair of elder men but not coming to any sort of conclusion that would abate his mind.

Rather the back of the library pulled focus. "Doesn't seem like most people care about history." Zeid commented with a slight sigh. It was disappointing more didn't come through here, but it would help them now with the lack of attention. At least that was the hope.

Shying away from the cobwebs; Zeid hurried in after Tane. Not staying long on the man's coat tails before veering off to the right and grabbing a larger looking book right off its dusty shelf. "Palace and the city makes the most sense." Dante nodded side stepping around that of the hylian Ace before rubbing a thoughtful thumb over his chin. Most of the spines weren't clearly marked meaning more work in discerning which was which.

The child had set the book on one of the tables that were present within the room. A quick look over told Dante it was a sort of illustration. "What is this?" Zeid pointed realizing that it was a dated map of Hyrule.

Curiosity pulled at him as he looked over the pages and towards the finger that was the boys. "Old map of Hyrule-" Dante repeated his previous internal thoughts, "That is Death Mountain and that," Take a moment to look at how Zeid was pointing, "Is the bay that used to be part of Lake Hylia."

"We aren't land locked?" Zeid asked suddenly interested.

"Dried up lad, I'd suspect if something was done about Lake Hylia the bay may be also fixed. Which could let us be less land locked. But it is mere theory." Flipping a page over, the next segment was about the sea that was off to the left hand side of Hyrule. Beyond the desert and large jutting mountains that helped seal in their current state of said land lock. "Anything over there of interest Tane?" The boy had already taken a keen interest in the book he had pulled, Dante already had a feeling they would be trying to take that particular tome with them.

Ruarc’s small corner of the library was quiet, save for the soft sounds of his snoring. The bulky armor and mattock he carried were bundled up together on the floor next to his chair, leaving him in the simple simple padded cotton pants and plain shirt he normally wore beneath them. The only thing that hadn’t been replaced were his boots, but there wasn’t much he could do about them. The librarian had let him in still wearing them, thankfully. They likely hadn’t expected him to stay as long as he had though, much less fall asleep at his table.

There was a rough snort as his breathing caught in a loud patch patch that managed to stir him. He came awake with a start and nearly fell out of his chair before managing to catch himself on the table. It took him a long moment to realize that he wasn’t alone at the table anymore.

I didn’t realize you took things this lightly, Tiny. It doesn’t seem like you.” The voice came across the table with a teasing tone and a impish smirk. Ruarc couldn’t actually see through what veiled the Warden from his sight, only the loosest of details. The smirk was something he could feel. It prickled the skin at the back of his neck, and made him distinctly uncomfortable.

If this is a lecture, you may as well just wake me up already,” Ruarc replied, lifting a hand to rub the sleep out of his eyes. “I’ve been here since before the festival.”

Maybe I just wanted to check in on your progress,” the spirit suggested amiably. The hylian met his mentor’s gaze wearily, no longer intimidated by the warm green glow.

I find that unlikely, given that we both know what kind of strain this puts on both of us.” With a sigh, the paladin leaned back in his seat and crossed his arms over his chest. It wasn’t likely he’d be able to pick out the new white hairs he’d receive from this visit, but the thought brought a significant amount of curiosity to his gaze. “...why are you here?”

“I’m making sure you’re where you need to be,” the Warden replied, his previous humor evaporated. Ruarc watched light flare from the spirit’s forearms, the runes the spirit typically used to impart something he was lacking. The paladin shifted uncomfortably in his chair, remembering how painful the process could be. “You’re going to need to be able to feel things.” The spirit stood then and leaned across the table. “What’s your creed, Caerwind?”

Ruarc grimaced. He knew what was coming. “The goddesses help those who help themselves,” the paladin grumbled. As the spirit delivered a flick to the center of his forehead, a surge of power and pain rushed through his veins. Ruarc’s teeth ground together, and his vision faded with parting words from the Warden.

    Remember that.

There was a rough snort as Ruarc’s breathing caught in a loud bit of snoring, jarring him awake with a start. His head shot up from the table, and though he tried to reach for the table it was already too late for him. The chair creaked as it went up onto two legs, and then prompty fell to the floor. Ruarc hit the ground with a loud thud and a clatter of wood, his bulk somehow managing not to crack the wood beneath him. A groan escaped him, before rolling onto his side.

Bedside manner needs some work,” Ruarc grumbled, and started to get to his feet.

Tane browsed curiously, completely zoning out and lost in thought as he read cover after cover, spine after spine, flipping through various scrolls, and even taking a few brief moments to even stand there and ponder whether anything at all might still be found. He could hear Zeid and Dante conversing about something, but quite honestly he just wasn't paying them any mind at all. He was lost in his own little world, putting his skills to use and trying to find clues.

Finally, he heard his name and that brought him back to reality in an instant. Looking up from his browsing, he set his eyes on Dante. "There are an awful lot of tomes and scrolls here that tell of hideouts and camps that no longer exist in the here and now. There's also one that lists... maps of the castle from back in its day. Apparently it had escape tunnels and secret rooms hidden within it. While fascinating, it doesn't say for sure what may or may not be useful."

He gathered up said tomes and scrolls and set them out on a table before the others. "Now was our missing lady one to use these sorts of rooms, do you suppose?" If she knew of them (being royalty, he gathered she had to have known at least a few of them), then perhaps she left belongings in one of them or might even still be using one to this day as a home base. It might have been a bit of a stretch, but it was definitely possible.

Leaving those there, he went back to grab for another rolled, aged scroll. "However, if you're not sure about this approach, I've found a number of old maps here as well. I think there used to be temples and shrines in the land. Raided by bandits by this point, I'm sure of it. It's unfortunate that we've lost so many important relics and our histories are simply shoved away into dark corners such as this. We are a broken land, that's for certain."

Arms crossed over each other, neatly resting upon his chest whilst Tane went over what he discovered so far. Nothing seemed to light a fire under the boy’s rear. Even if it was apparent he was listening; Zeid merely turned his head slightly to the right. “Would your mother have any need to return to the castle?” Dante asked figuring it might be the best question.

I wouldn’t be surprised though I can’t say why.” Shoulders pulled inwards for a moment, eyes drew over back towards the door. “Mind if I look around? Maybe something can jog my memory or I can find something that I think could help?” Stopping momentarily to look over the aged scroll now produced; Zeid and Dante both leaned inwards.

Old shrines and temples sound like they would have more interest. Considering the path of light Zelda takes, shrines seems fitting.” Dante uttered, “Broken land or not, those are pieces of the past that may have some information that is still relevant now.” A pause and focus shifted to the boy. “What would your mother lead to go looking for?” Seemed like a stupid question to ask now of all times, but it did just dawn on him.

Brows furrowed. Hands smoothed upon the tome he had pulled earlier. “Something about uniting the lands.” Screwing his eyes shut forcibly trying to recall something, anything! “Kenneth always muttered about how she went looking for answers that no mere mortal would find. Something… something about the past and –“ Frustration took hold with an aggravated sigh. “I want to say she might have been looking for a way to fix Hyrule. I mean she is the princess… wouldn’t that be her biggest concern?

Dante shut his mouth before he said something about how her concern seemed to negate that of her child; but instead look a side step back towards the shelves. “Why don’t you go and look around. I mean that was what you were asking about hmm?” Perhaps it was best not to annoy Zeid too much. After all, he had more links to Zelda than most would, so he was trying even if it didn’t feel like he had much to add currently. Too bad Kenneth hadn’t given the boy more to go off than, your mother went this way maybe. “Tane and I can exchange theories and try to decipher anything else.

Wrinkling up his nose with some sort of mumbling under his breath; shoulders promptly released their tension. “Okay.” Probing attention shifted between the two elder males before turning to step out of the archives.

There Dante exchanged a momentarily look to Tane. “You said they are probably raided but what do we know about the shrines Tane? I’ve heard theories of passing people about shrines that only the Hero could open… but maybe there is something that even a bandit couldn’t take but a princess could?” He was grasping at straws but at the same time he valued the detective’s insight. After all that was why they asked for his services.

    ----

Zeid wandered only briefly before the sound of something heavy fell over; effectively startling him into jumping damn near out of his boots. Clutching at his chest less his heart suddenly leap through his ribcage; his attention shifted quickly. Stopped in his tracks, he’d listen. Waiting to hear another loud bang but found nothing of the sort. He’d wait longer to see if there were footsteps coming to check on the sound but in similar favour, he didn’t hear anything.

Lips worried with a turn back towards the Archives – a few feet well behind him now – noticing how neither Mr. Kooper or Dante came out. So they must not have heard it.

Steeling his expression – as best as he could- the hylian squared his shoulders. Perhaps it was not the best of ideas to go looking for trouble, though what sort of trouble did one find in a library?

Didn’t seem to stop him from moving towards the direction he heard the bang. Absently trying to find a place to put his hands in the meantime, the place wasn’t that large he could get lost. Nor not find another person as said attention promptly focused on a fellow getting to his feet. Dawning realization came – two and two put together – as he peeked around one of the shelves of books. What had been curiosity had become sudden concern. Though he migrated some of it when the man was standing upwards. “Are you alright sir?” He’d ask keeping well out of arm’s length just in case.

Ruarc had to grab onto the table to haul himself upright, and in his dazed state it took him a second try to get a good enough grip to manage the task properly. There was a knot forming at the back of his head that would make his helm a little painful to wear for a few days if he didn't do something about it. The hylian gave a grunt as the small voice met his ears, and managed to get himself fully back up to his feet. "Just a rude awakening, I shouldn't have let myself fall asleep to begin with." The paladin reached up his hand to the back of his head and released a soft bit of healing light into the wound, abating the pain before he shifted his attention to the voice.

A look of surprise crossed his face at first, and then quickly shifted into recognition and concern. Ruarc looked beyond the child then, as if looking for some other figure in the stacks. When he did not immediately see anyone else, the kindly grey-blue gaze dropped back to the boy. "You...you aren't by chance here with anyone else are you?" the paladin asked cautiously, "Guardians?" There was no small amount of resignation in his voice at the question, and an apologetic look clouded his features before he decided to right the chair and address the mess that was lingering at his table.

By this point, his shoulders had slumped and despite his size he seemed more a like a youth being thrust onto a disagreeable chore than the warrior his scars and packed gear would have belied. It was a strange sight to be sure, but without the shielding protection his armor gave him Ruarc was uncomfortable and exposed.

Tane watched Zeid wander off, an absent look on his face that masked what he was thinking. He would have wished the boy would stay, hoping to ask him questions about his findings and to better hone in on the smallest number of potential places to look, but he wasn't going to dare go against Dante's word as he agreed to send off the lad that also so very much wanted to go look elsewhere anyway. There would be time enough to ask him important questions later. Besides, more eyes in more places would prove for more useful than them all staring at the exact same shelves.

    "That certainly seems plausible,"
he agreed, "I hear stories that such locations exist. Only our magnificent hero or royalty can access them, keeping them totally safe from raiders. If we were able to locate such a place, there would most definitely be leftover clues or messages on where to go, I'm confident of it. However... how could we get into such a place? I don't know about you, but I'm no royalty nor do I have any magical keys for opening secret ruins."

He chuckled, apparently amused with himself. "And yet," he held up a finger, angled somewhere in the direction of the door, "The lad mentioned uniting the land. That seems a worthy if lofty goal, but it gives me an idea. We're few and far between, but the bigger towns of Rauru and Kasuto seem to be thriving. There isn't much uniting to be done here any longer. Do you suppose our lost maiden could have packed up and headed elsewhere to a more remote location that may be in dire need of guidance?" Where, he hadn't the slightest idea, however. He'd never been too far from major settlements himself. "I grant it gives no help to where she might have gone, more... to why she isn't here."

"The kid is a royal right." Dante hitched a thumb over his shoulder, "That could act as that key you were mentioning about opening said things." Without pausing did he reach forward and pull that of a worn looking book. Its once vibrant cover was now a dull almost sickly looking yellow; the pages no better. Flipping it open to some random page, it was a bestiary. Not one that looked like it had been updated in the last century considering its previously thought of appearance, but a bestiary no less. Currently on the right hand side was a sprawling crude picture of a Deku Scrub. Appearing withered and much too thin to be correct; and the left side went into detail about its forested appearance.

Dante hummed with a flick of his ear did he turn to look sideways at Tane. "Actually now that you put that out there-" The sheikah closed the book with his index finger on the former page. "That doesn't sound farfetched either. Rauru and Kasuto are places that were established after Harkianian was destroyed; but no less bustling as you put it." Singular brow lifted, "If I was said maiden looking to unite lands, I'd sure as hell not waste too much time in these places. But go towards even places that aren't even around any longer. As you said, need of guidance."

Turning on his heels, drumming fingers bounced upon the cover. "No it doesn't give where she might have gone, but that tome Zeid had. It had old history and the old map in it. With old cities and the likes on it; what if that could be a direction to your theory?" Looking the other man up and down; it seemed plausible actually. "We'd just need to figure out which of those old locations could say, have a shrine that would be of moderate interest?" He was honestly just suggesting ideas, but at this point it was better than floating in the wind.

    ---

Squinting at the man giving his retort, Zeid had to stop and wondering why someone would fall asleep in a library at all. But, he wasn't about to ask such a question. He really had no need to know. Not his business of course. He'd much rather make sure the man was okay rather than pretending he never seen him or rather never heard him fall over. Considering his size, Zeid now understood why it had been so startling.

Even yet, he'd step out from his little hidey spot of the shelves. Promptly tying his hands up to his hips, then dropping them when he felt they were over the top placement to dangle at his side - brows lifted upwards. "I didn't run off from any one if that is what you are inquiring. If I had, why would I come to a library?" Zeid asked genuinely curious before pointing back towards the archives. "My boss is actually here, I'm traveling with him and another fellow looking for-" Wait, Dante said not to go talking to heavily about his mother. Well at least not to drop her name so casually. "For my mother." Awareness dawned at the peculiar stutter he had in that conversational piece but shrugged it off.

Honestly he wasn't sure what was going on with this behemoth of a man, but he appeared... out of sorts. Out of his element? Out of something, "Are you sure you are okay, sir? You look anxious?" Was that the right word he was looking for, "I can grab someone should you need some attention."

Ruarc paused to give the boy a look over at the response, but wasn't able to get any closer to the truth he was looking for. If the vision had held faces or clothes, he couldn't remember them. As was usual, when he awoke he'd been left only with vague notions and impressions. Go to Katsuto, find the library, find a child and their protectors. There hadn't been any guidance about what to do afterward, there never was. The paladin was always expected to go where he was needed and do whatever it was that was required when he got there. It was only ever aggravating at the start, but there were a number of hurdles to get past that he was always left to his own devices about.

"My anxiety is because of my work," the massive hylian replied as he started to clean up the table he'd been studying at. "Your parents ever tell you to go someplace and do something without telling you why? Expect you to do what you're told and whatever you need to when you get there?" As the last of the books were piled up, Ruarc paused and leaned against the table stiffly as his arms crossed over his chest. "It's like that. Only no one knows your mother sent you."

A weak smile crossed his lips as his gaze drifted up and into the stacks beyond the youth. "If it's not impertinent, why would you be looking for your mother in a library?" The boy's situation made about as much sense as his own so far, but without knowing if he was even the one Ruarc was looking for the only thing he could do was ask more questions.

If it was indeed true that Zeid had the power to open such secret doors, then that would mean they were free to explore all possibilities and look for hidden rooms and shrines and would have no trouble whatsoever in getting in them. If anything, that was one problem they wouldn't need to worry about solving. They had it in the proverbial bag. Lucky them. Now if only they could solve the most important problem... Where could the woman have gone?

Dante seemed to agree with the Ace's thought that their royal majesty had gone off to more isolated or forgotten places, of which there were many. The whole country was in shambles and the roads were dangerous at best, and completely destroyed at worst. To go traveling out farther past the safe havens they had left was suicide. It was asking for death if you ere not full prepared. But their princess... their highness.. their queen... whatever she had been at the moment of Hyrule's demise.... Surely if anyone was brave enough and strong enough to survive out there, it'd be here. Surely she knew the lands better than any other that had ever lived.

"It would have to be something old,"
he agreed, "War has torn the land so much it's hardly recognizable any longer. It was time enough ago that most of us weren't around to see it and know what it had been before. I know I sure haven't been around that long." Tane was experienced, sure, but he was still young enough that he could say he had a whole life still ahead of him. "Maybe we should go find the boy and look over these maps together. Something might spark in him. Otherwise, we'll have to play search and guess and check every corner. And that could take months.. maybe years." Hyrule was not a small place.

It was good to have another able body to bounce thoughts off, especially one of his calibre. Dante was almost certain he wouldn't have been able to come even this far - no matter how far it really wasn't- without Tane's expertise. "The lands may have changed but the basics are still there. We are still decently whole right, even against an old map the land marks will have remained somewhat in the same location." He slid the book that he had been holding back into place; "I mean if we lost half of our land into the sea; then I'd be a little more concerned about that aspect."

Soles clicked upon the stone floor allowing his focus to move out the door. "Probably for the best." As much as he was already certain this endeavor could take a up a lot of time; he wasn't too sure if he was set on spending years with it. Although he sort of assumed that responsibility when he allowed the lad to work under him right? Kenneth seemed just to up and leave without a secondary thought once he knew Zeid had a job at the Harp; but that left the boy his charge. Scratching the white crown; he'd shrug. Mostly to himself. "Well if we are skilled enough, I'd hope this only takes at most maybe a few months." He was absolutely bullshitting himself, if he actually believed that.

"After you Tane." Dante gestured letting the detective step out first.

    ---

Narrowing a cautionary eye to that of the behemoth and the mention of work, he merely lifted his chin up at the notion of anxiety. He didn't understand the man or what sort of work he'd be in that it caused him such emotions. "You realize I am a kid right? That is basically what my life is until I am considered old enough not to be told what to do." Quirking a brow up at the final words, he had to at least agree to it somewhat. "Okay, I get what you mean."

Although he stopped and made a large deep shrug. "Why would I not be looking for my mother in a library." Giving a bit of a cheeky little grin, he'd quickly remove it. At least the cheeky part of it. "My mother is a important figure, so I was doing some research about her exploits." He had to be careful not to spill too much. Less he hear about it later. But, that didn't mean he couldn't answer in some way. Zeid just actually had to think about how to answer. It was easier just to say what was on his mind rather than consider the words behind it.

Ears flicked upwards listening to steps but didn't seem bothered to looking into them. Rather, he gave the large man another look over. "So-" Taking a step inwards towards that of the table, finding sudden interest in the tomes the man had been reading and piled, "What type of work do you do?" Realizing the personal question, he'd promptly tilt his face towards the other. "I'm Zeid by the way." Giving out his name seemed reasonable and a fine way of stating that he was willing to share some information. "You're kind of big to be a librarian, so you can't tell me that you work here." Actually, the man could. As if Zeid would know if it were true or not.

Ruarc didn't seem to understand the logic that Zeid gave him about the search or his mother, and it showed plainly on his features. THough his posture relaxed somewhat under the boy's questioning and some of the anxiety seemed to fade, confusion seemed to set in much deeper. The Warden never explained himself. No matter the quest or the purpose, Ruarc was only ever given the direction and if he was lucky, some sparse hints about who it was he was supposed to look for to figure out what it was that was expected of him.

"Well, my name is Ruarc," he offered simply in reply, but gave a warm sort of smile afterward, "and I am most certainly not a librarian. I'm..." There was a pause as he considered how to describe it, before shaking his head and just coming out with it. "I'm a paladin. A...warrior of the golden goddesses. Sortof like the Order of Rauru, but without any of the stuffiness or rules. I just go where I'm needed and help the people I'm supposed to help. Most times that means fighting, but occasionally I get to heal those in need instead. It somehow keeps bread on the table."

The hylian shifted and stretched then, cracking his back, then his shoulders, and finally his neck as he roused himself fully from the nap that he'd been taking. "The only thing I know about why I'm here is that I'm supposed to find a kid, and keep something bad from happening." He spoke in a nonchalant manner about the task, and shrugged as he shifted over to his gear and hefted the armor weighted hammer up onto his shoulder. "As for you, it doesn't sound much as though you're looking for your mother as much as you're looking for her trail. I've got time to kill if you need help looking for information." Ruarc picked up his shield as he made the offer, strapping it across his back like it weighed less than a feather.

"Right," Tane nodded, "The land may be battered and the people fewer, but the rest of the country still is there. It's simply... cut off or lost or forgotten. It hasn't gone anywhere. Only our knowledge of it has been diminished. There could very well be vast cities there that have forgotten about us all the same. We're separated and, as the lad clued in... we haven't been united." It was a big problem, but one that did have solutions to those who were willing to pursue them. If there was more past the war scarred land, more people, more land, more everything, then both sides would have to first be shown the other existed before they could hope to be led to come back together. Tane had seen no proof yet, only a lot of reasonable explanation and damned good intuition there had to be something out there. No way could these small hamlets be all that was left. That would just be depressing now that he was giving it serious thought

If the Ace could take part in a grand goal of reuniting the land... if he could be remembered and recalled as having a hand in restoring the beautiful country of Hyrule, then that would be even better than being known all around as an ace detective. He could go down in history. Extraordinary. Tane the hero. He liked the sound of that.

Quite finished with his inner drooling and dreaming, he exited the room in search of the boy. He found him almost immediately, chatting it up with some other early avid reader probably. Possibly. Maybe. With no desire to blab and blow any secrets to a stranger by spouting out 'Oy hey we think we found some clues to our missing majesty's potential travel destinations', he instead just asked, "Am I interrupting something here?"

"I don't know how many other potential people are just beyond our grasp, but there sure as hell better be." Dante echoed though he didn't know Tane was having such private thoughts. "We've been cut off the from other side of Hyrule for years if not longer, I'd hate to think that what we have in this section of our world is it." While he was sure someone must have figured out a way to tell if there were actually others beyond those magical borders and impassable mountains; they sure didn't make it overly known. Specially once one sat down to really think about it.

It made it seem like this quest to find Princess Zelda all the more important. After all she was one of the sages and certainly had a larger investment to fixing this land. But, his mind did wander somewhat to question the whereabouts of the other two parties that were often spoken about. How did she manage to survive. Actually; when he was thinking about it, wouldn't she much older than he previously believed... what if she wasn't the original Zelda that had been part of the original confrontation that left their lands so divided.

Such a thought was confined within his own thoughts. Due to the fact that Tane had located Zeid very quickly and it appeared the lad had found another being. A massive being at that. Clearly they had been talking though the detective was being careful about his words.

Zeid seemed as if he was about to say something to the large man that had been holding the conversation, but shook his head quickly. "Mr. Kooper;" Zeid smirked holding a hand outwards in a gesturing welcoming to Ruarc. "Actually nothing, just found Ruarc here and came to investigate whilst looking for clues about mother." Dante narrowed somewhat of an eye at the lad though he shook his head. "Nothing said too much, apparently though-" He'd shift his foot pushing on the pad making himself move back, "Ruarc is looking for a kid."

"That doesn't sound sketchy at all." The sheikahn tilted his head to the other larger man, "Seems everyone is looking for someone today."

"Did you find anything about mother? Ruarc was just offering to help if we needed it." The lad was eager all the sudden which flagged Dante as somewhat bothersome. Though he wasn't sure if he was just over reading the situation.

Hooking a hand around his hip directing a side eye to Tane. They didn't even know this guy and oddly he was looking for a kid. Just like that? Either there was something larger at play here that involved an unseen fateful hand, or they were in the wrong place wrong time with the potential scene getting ugly. "More help is useful right? Weren't you saying that this morning that it would be nice to have another person on hand as we travel on Dante?"

And he was put on the spot. Though they were acting like the man wasn't here, which could also not go well. "Sorry, um well-" Brows furrowed up, "What kid are you looking for?" Feeling awkward at the sudden situation Dante shifted from one foot to another. Out of his element.

Ruarc weathered the conversation about his presence and purpose without any apparent distress, inoculated by the child's initial skepticism and awake enough to push the frustrations with his job aside. Luckily, with all of his armor packed tightly around the head of his warhammer and not wearing any other weapon only his size should have portrayed him as much of a threat. To say that it was a guarantee was far too much of a stretch to be true however, as the knife blade shaped scar beneath his shirt foretold. Sometimes, it just wasn't your day.

The paladin's grey blue gaze shifted between the two adults as Ruarc shrugged and shifted the weight on his shoulder. "I assume, one that is important for something," he said honestly, "that's usually how it goes anyway. But I am not given names, faces, or purpose." His expression was apologetic by this point, clearly understanding how ridiculous the statements he was making were. "I'm a servant of the goddesses, so I go where I'm told and deal with whatever problems I can find there." With another glance between the trio of faces, his expression shifted a bit towards resignation.

"I'd try to prove it, but none of you look to be in need of any sort of healing."
